Hanapepe Pipeline
The Hanapepe Pipeline project involved the reorganization of the water system and pipeline connecting Hanapepe and Ele'ele and Hanapepe 6" waterline replacement. A portion of the waterline crosses the 1911 Hanapepe bridge and placing the waterline across the bridge would negatively impact the bridge. In order to come to a solution, coordination with Kauai Historic Preservation Review Commission, State Historic Preservation Department (SHPD) and Department of Public works was necessary. Different alignments were considered so that the waterline placement would limit disturbance to the traffic and bridge. Part of the solution was to work and obtain easements from private land owners and install a section of the waterline via horizontal directional drilling. Other improvements included the design of a emergency pump connection, design of 5,400 linear feet of 12" and 16" waterline along Hanapepe Road and Kaumualii Highway, installation of 6" water main replacement along Hanapepe Road.
